Omnidrive Release 0.7

Posted on January 4th, 2007 by nik

After a long Australian summer and Indian winter we have launched version 0.7 of Omnidrive tonight. We have fixed many issues that we found and that users reported, have improved stability and performance across all the clients and in our own server cluster and have implemented a boatload of new features. Lets start with the new features, here is an overview:

  • In the web version, you can now upload files by dragging and dropping
  • Uploads in the web version are now a lot faster
  • A new ‘recycle bin’ in the bottom corner where you can drop files or folders.
  • When you share a folder, you can share it to an email address. The recipient will receive an email notifying them.
  • In the web version, you can now hide the properties panel.
  • Updated user account settings panel.

Also, you can now upgrade your free account to a ‘pro’ account for only $40 per year for 10gb of Omnidrive server storage. To upgrade your account, click on the ‘upgrade’ link in the top-right corner of the web interface. This is a rock-bottom price and we will be introducing more plans for both consumers and business users over the next week. There will also be new features that will only be available to pro users, and express support by email or phone.

Payments are currently being processed with PayPal, and we will be updating the support documentation with details on the upgrade process and the pro accounts.

In related news, the beta of the Mac client will be available from the 15th of January. It will be out in general wide release in the last week of January. The Mac client implements everything the Windows client has (including the one-click publishing and sharing of any folder on your computer). Also, we will be releasing a Linux and UNIX command line client around the same time.

There will be a lot more news in the next few days, we will be publishing our LiveFolders specification, announcing some products that Omnidrive will integrate with and a whole new website and support section.

If you don’t have an account with Omnidrive, signup today!

Please post or comment on the forum for all support enquiries. This way we can address your comment better. The forum is here. Thanks.

Are there any plans to make Omnidrive available via WebDAV? That way it would be easy to use it from Windows and Linux via Standard-Tools without any need of installing additional software.

  2. nik Says:

Mike, up until only a few weeks ago we had webdav support, but it wasn’t working to well since many of the clients have little bugs in them and none of them seem to conform to the standard.

We will be bringing WebDAV back, but it will be read/write only - without the other Omnidrive features such as LiveFolders, sharing, publishing, etc.

[…] Over at Omnidrive we have announced the release of version 0.7. There are a bunch of new features and enhancements, and performance has significantly improved. If you registered for Omnidrive long ago and haven’t been back recently, I suggest you check it out because a lot has changed. […]

I’m probably being a bit thick, but where would I find the latest windows client? I’m one of those “been away for a bit” folks, but I’d like to see what’s up these days. :-)

    Hi Chris,

Check the ‘downloads’ folder within the web interface, there is a copy there. If you don’t have that folder then you can download it from my Downloads folder which I have made public here:

Thanks Nik. I was definitely being a bit thick. Found it 5 minutes after posting.

  7. Smoerk Says:

drag’n'drop does not work in firefox.

and IE 6 doesn’t show any interface, just a circling circle.

  8. nik Says:

Smoerk: we just rolled a minor update that has fixed a lot of the compatability issues. FF is our primary dev browser, and we test against IE7 and everything has checked out as of the latest release. Thanks for your feedback.
