0.7.1 Brings Zoho Lovin’
Posted on January 19th, 2007 by nik
Only 10 days after our 0.7 release we bring you 0.7.1 - it has already hit the update servers and the new web interface is up and running. Don’t be fooled by the .1, this is only a point release in name, we have a whole swag of new features which would have made this release worthy of its own major version number. First and foremost, the API is very much live now, you can find more at the Omnidrive Developers Wiki. The most exciting news though is that today our friends at Zoho have also released their API, and for the past few months we have been working together with the team there to integrate all the Zoho office apps into Omnidrive.
If you aren’t farmiliar with Zoho, they are a group of guys that provide 11 different web applications and as part of that suite there are three apps that make up the best web-based office suite on the web today. We have integrated with Zoho Writer (a Word Processor) to allow Omnidrive users to edit Word documents, HTML files and text documents all from within Omnidrive and all with just a web browser. Starting on Wednesday, with Omnidrive you will also be able to edit Excel spreadsheets, Powerpoint presentations (and run Powerpoint presentations) and many other different document types as we integrate with Zoho Sheet and Zoho Show. Together with Zoho, we are providing a full web-based document storage, management, collaboration, publishing and editing environment. With every new release we are edging closer and closer to emulating the full desktop experience on the web. As a storage, publishing and collaboration platform Omnidrive is the central hub for all your content and applications - both desktop and web-based.
To open a document with Zoho, simply double click on any office document (or text, html, open office, etc.). If you share or publish a word document, the recipient will also be able to view the document with Zoho. To create a new office document, go to File -> New -> document type and a new blank document will be created. Now you can not only access, but fully edit all your documents with just a web browser (and it works across all the major browsers).
This couldn’t be any easier to use, you don’t need to learn anything new as it works just like it works on your desktop (and just as fast). If you don’t have an Omnidrive account go and signup now, link all your documents to Omnidrive and get started with a new type of web experience
Also in 0.7.1, the web interface has an updated menu structure, has had a massive performance boost and many other smaller changes that make the overall experience a little better. With the Windows desktop client there have been a number of improvements and new features as well, you can now open files in your Omnidrive with any application (open with), edit the properties of a shared folder, define shortcuts to Omnidrive and see more information in the properties panel. For a full changelog for v0.7.1 see Omnidrive Update.
0.7.2 will be out Friday next week, and along with the support for opening and editing other document types with Zoho, the Omnidrive Mac Client will be coming out of private beta (yes!) and we have a super-secret update that we promise will make Omnidrive the fastest and best way to share multimedia files between you and your friends. So tune in next week at the same time, same place for the next release, and in the meantime go and link all your documents to Omnidrive and get a taste of what desktop freedom is like.

[…] After only 10 days since our last release, today at Omnidrive we rolled out v0.7.1. A point release in name only as there are a large number of changes and features. The biggest and the best of these is that we have entered into a partnership with the guys at Zoho to allow Omnidrive users to edit and view all their office documents through the Omnidrive web interface. You can edit word documents, create HTML pages and a whole lot more now without leaving the Omnidrive interface. We have many more partnerships in the pipeline that will provide Omnidrive users with various applications that they can use with their files - working with Zoho is just the first of these. […]
